There's several ways to do this, but the easiest is Subler ( ) which will also convert AC3 and DTS to AAC should you want to watch whatever it is you want to watch on iOS (QuickTime already supports AC3 but will refuse to play DTS). While not all video in a Matroska container is H.264, most is, which means you can just extract the raw video and audio data and plop it in a MP4 container to have QuickTime play it with GPU acceleration without having to re-encode. GPU accelerated video works well on OS X, but only if you're using QuickTime, which means you have to be using a format natively supported by QuickTime (that is, not with Perian). I think last time I tried, Parallels had a slight speed and feature advantage, but it would crash often doing video decoding. I've got a Win 7 VM that plays back videos better than the OS-X native video, but I find I cannot use fancy pixel shader effects to sharpen the video or resize it I guess because the VM isn't really emulating all the DirectX features. base of True Type users,' said Ron Subler, president of The Company. mkv rips that just don't work with any video player or decoder package I've tried on the mac. last week added support for popular PC memory managers. ![]() The thing I find lacking most in OS-X is fast, high quality, and obscure video decoders that are plentiful with Windows dshow. ![]() When the platypus was first encountered by Europeans in 1798, a pelt and sketch were sent back to Great Britain by Captain John Hunter, the second Governor of New South Wales. When on land, it engages in knuckle-walking to protect the webbing between its toes. It has a reptilian gait, with the legs on the sides of the body, rather than underneath. The platypus has extra bones in the shoulder girdle, including an interclavicle, which is not found in other mammals. However, the external opening of the ear still lies at the base of the jaw. As in all true mammals, the tiny bones that conduct sound in the middle ear are fully incorporated into the skull, rather than lying in the jaw as in cynodonts and other premammalian synapsids. The platypus jaw is constructed differently from that of other mammals, and the jaw-opening muscle is different. Modern platypus young have three-cusped molars, which they lose before or just after leaving the breeding burrow adults have heavily keratinised pads in their place. Research suggests this has been a gradual adaptation to harsh environmental conditions on the part of the small number of surviving monotreme species rather than a historical characteristic of monotremes. The platypus has an average body temperature of about 32☌ rather than the 37☌ typical of placental mammals. Weight varies considerably from 0.7 to 2.4 kg, with males being larger than females males average 50 cm in total length, while females average 43 cm, with substantial variation in average size from one region to another, and this pattern does not seem to follow any particular climatic rule and may be due to other environmental factors, such as predation and human encroachment. Platypuses have been heard to emit a low growl when disturbed and a range of other vocalizations have been reported in captive specimens. The nostrils are located on the dorsal surface of the snout, while the eyes and ears are located in a groove set just back from it this groove is closed when swimming. Unlike a bird's beak, the snout of the platypus is a sensory organ with the mouth on the underside. The webbing is more significant on the front feet and is folded back when walking on land. It has webbed feet and a large, rubbery snout these features appear closer to those of a duck than to those of any known mammal. The platypus uses its tail for storage of fat reserves. The fur is waterproof, and the texture is akin to that of a mole. The body and the broad, flat tail of the platypus are covered with dense, brown fur that traps a layer of insulating air to keep the animal warm. ![]() Although captive breeding programmes have had only limited success and the platypus is vulnerable to the effects of pollution, it is not under any immediate threat. Until the early 20th century, it was hunted for its fur, but it is now protected throughout its range. The platypus is the animal emblem of the state of New South Wales. The unique features of the platypus make it an important subject in the study of evolutionary biology and a recognisable and iconic symbol of Australia it has appeared as a mascot at national events and is featured on the reverse of its 20-cent coin. It is one of the few venomous mammals, the male platypus having a spur on the hind foot that delivers a venom capable of causing severe pain to humans. The unusual appearance of this egg-laying, duck-billed, beaver-tailed, otter-footed mammal baffled European naturalists when they first encountered it, with some considering it an elaborate fraud. It is the sole living representative of its family and genus, though a number of related species have been found in the fossil record. Together with the four species of echidna, it is one of the five extant species of monotremes, the only mammals that lay eggs instead of giving birth. The platypus is a semiaquatic mammal endemic to eastern Australia, including Tasmania. ![]() Once completed, click Close to exit the Installation Wizardġ1. But, how does this metaphor apply to the academic text in particular? If a movable academic book asks to be interpreted, does the mobility of meaning that it creates defy such interpretative engagement? In this article, I argue that when automated texts are effectively scaffolded by cultural critiques, they can support deep research processes. This metaphor of book-as-movable text is useful in that it captures how the form of the academic textbook is now entangled with its process, as much as its context. The image derives from German printer Johannes Gutenberg’s 15th-century innovation for the mass production of books, a mechanical system that used paper, ink and the relatively cheap and reusable display of cubed, metal letters that could be arranged and rearranged into words on a tray ready to be pressed into print. ![]() Given the limitations of this conventional metaphor for the digital text, I propose an alternative conception, one that is as archaic in origin as the printed-book metaphor, yet surprisingly robust for describing the customizable texts of today’s Academy: the metaphor of movable text. However, as digital texts have increasingly taken on characteristics of digital systems, the metaphor of the printed book has lost currency. Texts were divided into ‘pages’ that could turn on screen, and e-book repositories were referred to as ‘libraries’. ![]() The results reveal under-use of processes available to sustain and improve an organisation’s docuverse and a gap in organisational roles and skill-sets to apply those processes.ĭuring the early adoption of e-books, this unfamiliar digital format was made more palatable through analogy to the printed book. The research also considers collaborative hypertexts in the context of social machines with regard to sustaining organisational knowledge as hypertext content. Using Wikipedia as a context, this thesis investigates whether large collaborative hypertexts show signs of their contributors using deliberate hypertextual structure or are simply connecting ‘pages’ of digital content. Constantly updated by humans and bots, it is an ever-changing knowledge store. while LBJ was designed as three cross-shaped nodes, for instance). Wikipedia is the world largest public hypertext knowledge base. Storyspace is the hypertext authoring system with which these hypertexts were. For a hypertext docuverse that holds changing information, such as a knowledge base, paying heed to its hypertextual structure aids the long-term health and sustainability of the knowledge it contains. Despite subsequent advances in Web technology, some of the older hypertextual capabilities remain unrealised and hypertext/media appears to be treated more as a technology than a medium. Hypertextual in nature, the Web in its earliest form was technically limited and not capable of using the full richness of hypertext at that time. |
